On January 21, 2026, School of Earth and Environmental Sciences, Lanzhou University and Gansu Academy of Forestry held an unveiling ceremony for the "Joint Training Base for Professional Degree Postgraduates in Resources and Environment".
Professor Gou Xiaohua and Professor Wang Xin (Vice Dean) from the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences, Lanzhou University; Director Wang Jianqiang of the Gansu Provincial Forestry and Grassland Bureau; and President Ma Quanlin of the Gansu Academy of Forestry attended the ceremony and unveiled the base. Professor Zhang Junzhou and Associate Professor Zhang Fen from the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences, Lanzhou University; Deputy Director Shi Linmin of the Gansu Provincial Forestry and Grassland Bureau; and Vice Presidents Wei Qiushi, Jiang Chengying, and Mo Baoru of the Gansu Academy of Forestry attended the signing ceremony.
In his speech, President Ma Quanlin stated that the establishment of the joint training base is an important measure to deepen the construction of the forestry and grassland science and technology innovation system and promote the transformation of research resources into talent cultivation. The Gansu Academy of Forestry has long been rooted in the frontline of forestry and grassland research and production practice, accumulating rich experience in fields such as desertification control, ecological restoration, and forestry and grassland resource monitoring and management. Deep cooperation with the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences, Lanzhou University will effectively integrate research platforms, experimental demonstration bases, and engineering practice resources. This will provide professional degree postgraduates with a research and practice environment that is closer to reality and oriented towards needs, promoting the two-way empowerment of research achievement transformation and the growth of high-level talents.

Wang Jianqiang stated that Gansu is currently in a critical stage of promoting ecological protection and restoration and high-quality development of forestry and grassland, leading to an increasingly urgent demand for professional talents in the field of resources and environment. The joint construction of the postgraduate training base by Lanzhou University and Gansu Academy of Forestry is an important practice in implementing the strategy of "revitalizing forestry through science and education and strengthening forestry through talent". He hoped that both sides would use the base construction as a link to closely dock with the frontline needs of forestry and grassland governance and ecological engineering, promoting research achievements to serve decision-making, the grassroots, and engineering practice, thereby providing solid scientific and technological and talent support for the development of the province's forestry and grassland undertakings.
Gou Xiaohua, Wang Xin, Wang Jianqiang, and Ma Quanlin jointly unveiled the plaque for the "Joint Training Base for Professional Degree Postgraduates in Resources and Environment". The atmosphere at the scene was warm, marking the official entry of the cooperation between the two sides into the implementation stage. Subsequently, on behalf of the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences, Lanzhou University, Wang Xin presented letters of appointment for industry mentors in the Resources and Environment major to Ma Quanlin, further perfecting the construction of the mentor team for the joint training base and providing institutional guarantees for the high-quality training of postgraduates.
After the unveiling ceremony, the two sides conducted in-depth and friendly exchanges on the mechanism of joint postgraduate training, directions for research cooperation, and the co-construction of platforms. They also jointly attended the "Forestry and Grassland Science and Technology Lecture Hall" organized by the Gansu Academy of Forestry, where Professor Gou Xiaohua was invited to give a special report. Professor Fang Xiangwen from the College of Ecology, Lanzhou University also attended the "Forestry and Grassland Science and Technology Lecture Hall" and delivered a special report. Through special reports and exchange discussions, academic horizons were further broadened, and good results were achieved.
